NEWS RELEASE 5/20/2012
How to begin and market your home based businessHow to make sure your home based business idea will work. How to market it and when to quit your day job.
So you have finally decided to
start your home based business. Now you have to make it work.
Three major things to consider are the product, how to
market it and then the ultimate goal, quitting your day job.
When you consider your service
or product idea, make sure others are going to pay you
enough money for it. It may sound fun, but if it isn?t in
demand then you?ll never make it. Some people have really
good ideas, but find they can?t sell the product to enough
people to make the home business meet the expenses. Try to
figure this out before you invest a lot of time or money.
Check the phone book. Are there
any other businesses in your field? If there are none,
chances are that you won?t make enough to support it. Of
course, you may have an idea that no one has thought of that
will provide a valuable service that will sell. To decide
ask yourself if the average person in your area needs it.
Talk to people and tell them about your idea. See if they
would buy it. If one in twenty will, you should be okay.
If when you look in the phone
book you see dozens of listing for your business, it will
probably sell, but there will be a lot of competition. If it
is a product that every household needs, it will probably be
okay, but breaking into the field may be difficult. You will
have to offer a better product or a lower price to get the
costumers you need to start out. After you get known you
will be able to up your prices to match the competition and
if your product is superior you will be able to charge a
premium.
And that brings us to marketing.
Word of mouth is your best bet. When people are telling
their friends and associates they trust you and your product
and they?re letting others know it. This is a great way to
get known. Remember you can also be the person spreading
your name as a valuable business. Tell everyone about it.
Slip it into every conversation you can. But you can?t
solely count on word of mouth, especially in the beginning.
Don?t? worry, there are many other ways to market your
service.
First, you can advertise. Send
letters in the mail. Leave flyers on doors, cars and at
businesses. Make sure you are in all the phone books. Put an
ad in the paper, and if your business warrants it one on the
radio or TV too.
Get on the internet. Everything
is on it, and if you want to succeed in the future you?d
better be too. Put your site on as many search engines as
possible on a regular basis. Place ads for your site on
related sites. If your costumers are looking at related
areas of the internet, it will be easy to usher them to
yours.
Other ways to advertise are with
business cards. Have them, carry them. I wish I had a dime
for every time I?ve heard someone say, ?oh, I don?t have a
card on me right now.? They are good tools, but only if you
pass them out. It is always good advertisement to get in the
paper or magazines. Maybe you have a story of how you are
trying to overcome the odds, talk to a writer and get it
published, free advertisements the best.
Now that you have a few clients,
and your starting to make some money when should you go full
time? Before you leave your job there are a few things to
consider. Figure out how much you have made in a month. Be
realistic. If it is half of what you need to live on, you
are on your way. Now you are going to need some money in the
bank. You don?t want to loose your dream because you hit a
hard time and couldn?t get the money to get through it. The
money should be enough to live on for three months. With
this and the ability to make half of what you need you will
be able to get through six months, which should give you
enough time to get more customers and provide yourself with
enough to live on, invest and save. And when you finally can
do that, you?ll know you?ve made it.
